On a clear September morning, American Airlines Flight 77 departed from Dulles International Airport in Virginia, bound for Los Angeles. The Boeing 757 was carrying 58 passengers and 6 crew members, including the hijackers. As the plane climbed towards its cruising altitude, the hijackers took control of the cockpit and began to steer the plane towards Washington D.C.
